Most of our furniture requires some assembly. Following the instructions supplied and the guidance below keeps your furniture safe, stable and covered by our guarantee.
Assembly
- Assemble on a clean, flat, protected surface and follow the supplied instructions in order.
- Check you have all parts against the parts list before you start; contact us for any missing part rather than improvising.
- Tighten fixings fully but do not overtighten — over-driven screws strip the fixing and are not covered by the guarantee.
- Some items need two people. Where the instructions say so, please do not attempt it alone.
- Re-check and re-tighten fixings a few weeks after assembly and periodically thereafter.
Stability and anti-tip safety
Tall and top-heavy items must be secured to the wall. Chests of drawers, bookcases and tall storage can tip if drawers are opened together or if a child climbs on them. Use the wall-fixing supplied, or a fixing appropriate to your wall type, and never open more than one drawer at a time.
Keep heavy items in lower drawers, do not place televisions on furniture not designed to support them, and never exceed a stated load rating.
Children and small parts
Assembly hardware includes small parts that are a choking hazard. Keep children and pets away from the work area and dispose of packaging, staples and plastic wrap promptly.
Caring for wood and wood-effect surfaces
- Dust with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth. Wipe spills immediately.
- Do not use bleach, ammonia, solvents, abrasives or silicone-based polishes.
- Use mats or coasters under hot dishes, drinks, vases and anything that may leak.
- Keep furniture away from radiators, fireplaces and prolonged direct sunlight, which can dry, warp or fade timber.
- Maintain normal indoor humidity; damp environments such as unheated conservatories, garages and bathrooms will damage most wood furniture.
- Lift furniture to move it — dragging stresses joints and damages both the furniture and your floor.
Indoor use only
Unless the product page states that an item is suitable for outdoor use, treat it as indoor furniture. Outdoor use invalidates the guarantee.
